{overall rating}- * * * *
{action}- A few nice sequences such as the escape from the pool/mud hole.
{humor}- Its funny to see Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth sharing some doobies.
{nudity}- Not in this one, however, you do get to see some JoBeth Williams camel toe.
{blood}- A little but its really not that kind of horror movie.
{gore}- See above.
{acting}- Domminique Dunne is the only weak spot in this movie and she's really not that bad. Probably why she was written out of the sequel.
{plot}- Typical haunted house story better thought out.
{film quality}- Very nice. Very typical of Spielberg produced projects.
{entertainment factor}- Very easy to watch.
{Aprox. amount of time spent fast forwarding}- Zero.
Steve Freeling is a real estate salesman who's helping pioneer the whole concept of neighborhoods where every house is a cookie cutter of the one next to it. Little does he know that his house in the development has a score to settle. Late one night his daughter watches a TV that’s gone to fuzz and soon "They're herree." Little things begin happening such as bent spoons and chair pyramids, but nothing could prepare them for what would happen next. The closet eats their daughter. Now the only reassurance that they have that she's still alive is the sound of her voice on the fuzzy channels and a bossy midget exorcist. It is easy to like Spielberg's writing but most might think that Tobe Hooper is not the person to direct this. However, this is one of the 3 movies that I like by Hooper. (The other two are both Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies.) As far as house haunting films go this is second only to its sequel. Which ironically has a different director.
