HALLOWEEN (1978)

{overall rating}- * * * * *

{action}- Hack and slash.

{humor}- There are lots of attempted jokes but not many work. Funny though, The Thing is the movie they are watching which years later John Carpenter will remake.

{blood}- All red and purrty.

{gore}- Slightly.. Not really.

{nudity}- Ben Tramer Doesn't get to see Jamie Lee but PJ Soles goes topless.

{acting}- Not near as bad as I remember once thinking it was.

{plot}- The boogeyman and the suburbs. Seems played out now but was a pretty fresh concept then.

{film quality}- The cinematography in this movie really set a standard. The continuity is horrible but the shots are set up perfectly. Very similar style to M. Night Shyamalan.

{entertainment factor}- This is a slower paced slasher than most I've seen.

{Aprox. amount of time spent fast forwarding}- Are you kidding? Zilch.

Back in 1963 a young boy named Michael Myers (no relation to Austin Powers) catches his big sis' playing doctor, so he goes surgeon on her with a big knife from his kitchen. 15 years later Michael is now a big boy with a worse attitude living in an asylum. That is until the night before Halloween when he escapes in murderous fashion. Now the only thing that can save the city of Haddonfield is one Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) who no one seems to listen to. Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) desperately needs to get laid. She's the dorky tag along of two more popular, easier girls. Laurie just can't seem to loosen up because the fear of her brother returning is always in the back of her head. Will she be a victim like her sister or can she and her friends survive the wrath of a brother scorn. There is a reason why this movie inspired so many sequels and the following it has to this day. It’s a great horror movie that is well written, well shot and well performed. This movie is one of the few truly suspenseful movies.
