AMERICAN MOVIE BY SMOKESKRENE

AMERICAN MOVIE ; THE MAKING OF NORTHWESTERN

{overall rating}- * * * * *

{action}- Some.

{humor}- The entire thing is hilarious. Even the basic phrasing of words is funny. Coven sounds like oven that just doesn't work. Its cove...n.

{blood}- Black and white blood and real blood when Mark scratches up his knuckles trying to punch a hole in a cabinet door.

{gore}- A little but not really.

{nudity}- Nope.

{acting}- It’s a documentary.

{plot}- Very well laid out interview style documentary that links together wonderfully.

{film quality}- Typical 90's doc.

{entertainment factor}- It can be dry in moments but its amusing like a reality show version of Clerks.

{Aprox. amount of time spent fast forwarding}- zero.

Mark Borchardt may be the world's most brilliant idiot. Never in my experience have I ever seen someone who can think so deeply and be so insightful and yet be so absolutely clueless. He is so focused on accomplishing his goals that he completely loses touch with reality and can sometimes appear borderline psychotic. Mark's goal is to make the great American movie. Very normal, smart and respectable people pitch him to help. Their simple reason is to make his dream come true because they respect his passion for what he does. His most loyal follower and friend named Mike Shank. Mike burned his mind out on acid SLC punk style. He writes original pieces of music that are actually Ozzy songs with a few words changed. You get to see Mark go from raising funds from his senial uncle to ramming an actors head into a cabinet during production. Mike and Mark are characters that so good it could never be written. Their insane banter make this movie so entertaining it hurts. Rent this movie. Own this movie. Just make sure you watch it. You'll find yourself entertained and completely confused by weirdness that oozes out of the mouths of white trash. Still my pick for greatest documentary of all time.
