A few German/Swedish troops seek refuge in an old house to avoid enemy crossfire. When they awake the next morning, one of them has been killed, and another is attacked by a wall-scaling vampire. They flee the house, but re-enter to find a small coffin in the basement where something is trying to get out, so they bury it.

Next scene, a mother and daughter move to a place that has polar nights (30 days of night, hmmm, sound familiar?), so she can do genetic research with the top authority in the field, Dr. Beckert. The next vampire attack occurs to a guy on a motorcycle. The body is found and placed on the autopsy table, where Dr. Beckert takes over the procedure and drives a stake through the cadaver’s heart to end his misery.

A medical student, Sebastian, takes one of the pills that Beckert’s been giving his coma patient, and it causes hallucinations and dogs start talking to him. Ha, talking dogs are funny! This pill also gives him an insatiable thirst for blood. He goes back to the school and steals the rest of Dr. B’s pills, which are then taken by a friend to a party. Nothing like a bunch of party-goers unknowingly turning into blood-sucking freaks.

We find out later that Beckert was one of soldiers who was bitten, and his genetic research is concentrated on making humans into vampires via genetically enhanced pills.

Pretty decent vampire flick with a touch of humor to boot, but nothing really innovative in the vampire look or ways to kill these blood-thirsty creatures. Worth a watch if you’re a fan of the genre, but don’t expect any scenes to leave lasting images.
