Habit (1997)

Humor: 1
Blood: 3
Nudity: 3, mostly Anna
Minutes FF’ed thru: none
Overall rating: 3

Sam, whose father has recently passed away, and whose girlfriend has broken up with him due to his alcohol abuse, meets Anna at a party. He grabs the wrong coat on the way out and has to go back in, so Anna gives him her number and leaves. The next day, Sam’s unable to find the number, and with the constant thought of her, attempts to track her down. He bumps into her at the city carnival, and they spend the rest of the evening together. At the end of the night, they start making out, and she gives him a hand job. He wakes up in a wooded area with his pants halfway down, and has blood on his mouth from being bitten.

Sam and Anna have frequent get-togethers, usually accompanied by Anna biting and drinking his blood during sex. Odd, yes, but somewhat exhilarating. She continues to keep mum about the details of her life, never appears to be hungry, and pops up at the oddest times. Sam continually feels sick and has an enhanced taste for red meat. His friend, Lenny, disappears, and ex-girlfirend, Liza, is killed.

Come to find out, Anna’s bite was more than just erotic foreplay, it was her attempt to get Sam to join vampirehood. In his fear of what may happen next, he buys garlic and goes to his father’s apartment, where he waits with a knife and cross. Anna busts into the apartment, overpowers him, bites him on the neck, and then has sex with him. He hits her over the head and flees to a nearby room, locking himself in. She enters through the window, and during the final attack, he and Anna struggle and fall out of the window. Their bodies found lifeless on the ground.
So, I guess a stake through the heart is not the only way to kill a vampire. This is not your typical stylized vampire movie. It has a fairly gritty storyline and picture, but manages to keep your attention. Kind of like a vampire movie made for the middle-class watcher, but can still be held in the same esteem as the more popular titles (Bram Stroker's Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, etc). It’s definitely worth a rent, but if you can get it for a good price, buy it.
